Filter Photo is pleased to present Power and Politics, featuring the work of 30 artists, juried by Barbara Tannenbaum, Curator of Photography at the Cleveland Museum of Art. The exhibition is on view September 16 through October 22, 2016.
Power and Politics will remain open through Filter Photo Festival and EXPO Chicago with an artists’ reception Sunday, September 25 from 5:30-8 pm during the Festival coinciding with On the Shelf, concurrently on display at Filter Space.
From the juror’s statement:
The platitude that the personal is political and its inverse, that the political is personal, seem more valid than ever in this election year, as the images in this exhibition attest. Photographers explored a wide variety of the issues addressed by the candidates as well as some neglected by current political discourse.
As Election Day approaches, a topic of immediate concern is who influences the choices we make at the ballot box. This exhibition gives thirty artists an opportunity to have their say. Whether working in documentary or other modes, they all continue the noble goal of social documentary photography: they urge viewers to analyze, understand, and act.
